Originally conceived as a one-off collaborationism between Okkervil River's Will Sheff and Kingfisher's Jonathan Meiburg, Shearwater continues the tradition of detailed, incubation songwriting regulate by greco-Roman artists like Snick Drake and Dutch Leonard Cohen and present-day indie rock and roll songwriters such as Eyeshade Callahan and Testament Oldham. The free radical began after Sheff and Meiburg had known each other for exactly a week with the idea that the duo wanted to fix an album called The Dissolution Room.
