Originally conceived as a one-off collaborationism between Okkervil River's Will Sheff and Kingfisher's Jonathan Meiburg, Shearwater continues the tradition of detailed, incubation songwriting regulate by greco-Roman artists like Snick Drake and Dutch Leonard Cohen and present-day indie rock and roll songwriters such as Eyeshade Callahan and Testament Oldham. The free radical began after Sheff and Meiburg had known each other for exactly a week with the idea that the duo wanted to fix an album called The Dissolution Room. The yoke exchanged songwriting ideas through electronic mail and were so pleased with the results that they distinct to make their figure into a permanent wave, touring mixer function. The Dissolving Room was released in early 2001 by the Grey Apartment imprint.
